Media Images

You've heard about those images. Slender - oops, skinny - women on TV and in movies and on magazine covers. Just seeing them forces young girls to become anorexic or bulimic and kill themselves. Happens all the time.

Except that it doesn't. There's no anorexia epidemic. But there is an obesity epidemic. Don't bother looking up the numbers. Just look around you. So I guess the sinister plot by the men who control the media isn't working.

In fact, the women on the screen tend to be lean and athletic, not skinny. (Never mind the grotesque Anne Coulter. She doesn't count anyway.) So I guess the country should be filled with lean and athletic young women, right? Only in my dreams.

Then there are the old media images. That requires a separate post.
